Why we use Full-Grain Vegetable Tanned Leather...
"VEGETABLE" Tanned Leather (what we use).
-
10% of the world's leather
-
Sustainable. Environmentally friendly.
-
Uses natural ingredients. Being an entirely Organic material, Vegetable Tanned Leather will change over time. It will age beautifully and grow softer and darker with a natural patina.
-
Durable and strong. If well cared for it can last several generations.
-
Has a distinct fragrance. The earthy smell you probably associate with leather is the smell of Vegetable Tanned Leather.
-
High cost and more timely to process to make. Hides take approximately 6 weeks.
"CHROME" Tanned Leather (what we'll NEVER use)
-
90% of the world's leather.
-
Uses harsh chemicals that smell bad (chromium sulfate, acids, etc.)
-
Wears poorly and can break easily.
-
Quicker and cheaper to produce.
We Only Use the Best Quality Leather Hides for you Babes...
"Full-Grain" is the highest quality grade of leather money can buy. It comes from the top layer of the hide and includes all of the natural grain. It is more expensive for manufacturers to buy and more difficult for them to work with.
This is reflected in the cost to the consumer.
The natural surface of full grain leather is unique - it tells a story and reveals natural imperfections, marks, and even light brands in the surface. Full grain leather is extremely strong and durable, as the natural grain contains the strongest fibers in the hide.
As full-grain leather ages, rather than wearing out, it burnishes and beautifies, developing a much sought-after patina and unique character that cannot be easily duplicated. Truly, the more you use it, the better it looks and feels.
